How does customs work when you move household goods from the UK to the EU?
In two halves. Since Brexit, a household move to France, Italy, Spain or Portugal is an export from the UK and an import into the EU, even though nothing is being sold. The UK half is an export declaration, lodged before the lorry leaves; depending on how it is made, you may need an EORI number of your own, which is free from GOV.UK. The EU half is a relief from import duty and VAT for used household goods, claimed with the customs authority of the country you are moving to when you take up residence there. Your belongings are cleared into the EU once, with no further customs stops at borders inside the EU. We prepare both declarations and a bilingual inventory.
How is an international removal quote worked out?
From a survey, never from a calculator. A surveyor visits your home, walks every room and notes the volume, anything fragile or awkward, and the access at your door, then asks about access at the new address too. The written quote that follows is one fixed figure covering packing, transport, the crossing, customs preparation, goods-in-transit cover and delivery. Four things move it: how much is going, how far the new home is from the Channel, how easy each end is to load and unload, and whether your dates allow a shared load. Storage, if you need it, is quoted separately. The survey is free, there is no obligation to book, and your consumer rights are set out by GOV.UK.
Do you collect from outside West London?
